Providing healthcare to remote communities
THE BORANA MOBILE CLINIC
-
Since 2005, in partnership with the Ministry Of Health, the Borana Mobile Clinic has been providing basic health care, health lectures, HIV Aids awareness, antenatal advice, child immunisation programmes and family planning to Borana’s neighbouring communities.
-
The Borana Mobile Clinic team is made up of two nurses and a driver, together they visit ten communities on a two-week rotation, treating over 700 patients and travelling over 1000 miles per month.
-
The majority of our neighbourhoods around Borana Conservancy do not have adequate access to basic health care, meaning that people from areas such as Tassia and Sanga have to travel extremely long distances to access any form of simple medical care or sanitation.
-
The nurses also provide support and counselling to students at the schools which are part of the Borana Education Support Programme and teach health education to remote community members focusing on hygiene and nutrition.
WATER
WATER
Where possible Borana supports the reticulation of piped water to local communities. Where this is not an option, we resort to transporting fresh water in tankers. On average, we transport over 2.5 million litres of fresh potable water per year to seven neighbourhoods during the dry months.
We also provide fresh water at each of our gate houses for collection from community members.
