Borana Conservancy is proud to report
zero poaching incidents in over 10 years.
This is in huge part due to Borana’s landscape-focused conservation efforts and social development goals, complemented by a dedicated team of rangers.
Over 120 male and female rangers
Such a high ranger density is crucial to anti-poaching efforts and the effective biological management and monitoring of rhino. This conservation success story could not have been achieved without support from key conservation partners: Save The Rhino International, ForRangers, The Kenya Wildlife Service and Lewa Wildlife Conservancy.
Borana Conservancy’s anti-poaching team is proud to report close to 100% local employment rate, encouraging local communities to see the value in rhino conservation.
The Borana anti-poaching team includes a team of women whose roles cover patrolling fence lines, acting as gatekeepers, monitoring radio communications and managing the operations room.
This has created opportunities that could otherwise be considered unobtainable for women living in remote areas of Kenya. These women are becoming the face of conservation across the landscape; inspiring others to take part in conservation.
They have been taught new skills and as a result, have become role models. We will continue to expand this programme and celebrate opportunities for equal employment.
Founded in 2015, ForRangers was a concept developed by Sam Taylor and Peter Newland, with a view to undertaking extreme endurance events to raise funds and awareness for Africa’s rangers - everyday heroes who put their lives on the line so that our wildlife can continue to exist.
Rather than just tell the story – the ForRangers teams began by taking part in some of the hardest, most challenging endurance events on the planet, in order to draw attention not only to the plight of Africa’s wildlife and the poaching crisis but importantly, the hardships and dangers the rangers are exposed to in trying to protect our wildlife. For Rangers primary goal has always and will always be to raise funds that go directly to support Africa's Rangers.
ForRangers provide the Borana Conservancy ranger team with invaluable life insurance, kit and equipment.
